Join us on Labor Day for singer/songwriter ROSI GOLAN with special guest LUKE BRINDLEY. Based in New York, ROSI GOLAN has been very busy since releasing her debut independent CD "The Drifter & the Gypsy" late last year, including performing at top local clubs locally (such as The Rock and Roll Hotel, Jammin Java and DC9) and nationally and having her songs featured in many popular TV shows. Local friend LUKE BRINDLEY has released several acclaimed CD's solo and with his brother. ROSI GOLAN is Israeli born, but has made many stops in her travels, including Germany and Paris before ending up in Los Angeles. While living in LA, Rosi was inundated with creative lessons from violin, to voice, to acting. At 19, she decided to focus on singing and picked up her first guitar, teaching herself to play and write songs. Six weeks later, she was performing at her first open mic. Since then, Rosi has played the Acoustic Playhouse, Molly Malones, The Whiskey and Genghis Cohen in LA and The Bitter End, The Living Room, Rockwood Music Hall and CBs Gallery in NYC, as she honed her stage craft and infectiously melodic songwriting. The past few years, Rosi has worked with a number of acclaimed writers and producers from all over the world, including Jeff Cohen, Boots, Richard Cuason, Nate Campany, Tim Gordine, Richard Lobb, Pete Gordeno, Marc Swersky, Robert Conley, and a continuing collaboration with singer/songwriter Jamie Hartman (Ben’s Brother) that has yielded numerous songs, including the single “Let Me Out”, from Ben’s Brother debut CD (Relentless/EMI/Virgin). In addition to "Let Me Out" being recently featured on an episode of “Grey’s Anatomy”, "Come Around" was on "One Tree Hill"'s season finale (and was her third song to be featured on that program), "Lullaby" was heard on "Private Practice" and her songs have also been played on "Dollhouse", "Ghost Whisperer" and even "Biggest Loser". "Shine" was picked up as the worldwide theme song for Pantene. She was also the winner of the first ASCAP Robert Allen Award for songwriting excellence, for which she performed at Lincoln Center. Rosi will certainly be in the right place to showcase her unique talent for rich melodies and a voice that not only draws you in, but still haunts you the next day. More information (and a number of her songs) can be found on Rosi's websites including www.rosigolan.com and www.myspace.com/rosigolan . LUKE BRINDLEY is one of the most promising singer/songwriters in the Washington, DC area. With his new EP Five Songs, following a highly praised self-titled record called “one of the best roots-rock records of the year” by The Washington Post, Luke has released four critically acclaimed albums in the last five years, garnering praise from numerous national publications. Equally at home on the stage, The Washington Times says of his live performance “no song goes untouched by the energy and pure infectious joy of Luke’s performance.” Just last year he won a 2008 Washington Area Music Association award for Best Contemporary Folk Album of the Year and was a finalist in the 2008 Mountain Stage NewSong Contest, the 2008 Paste/Cayamo singer/songwriter Contest, the 2008 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist, a 2007- 2008 Artist in Residence at the Strathmore Center, 2007 and 2008 Performing Songwriter Top 12 DIY, and more. Though topical, his music draws from another time - it is reminiscent of artists some decades ago who focused on the timeless art of songwriting. Compassion and the challenge of keeping love alive in a modern and dangerous world are recurring themes in Luke’s music and his life. His life-long pursuit of music has led him to travels in West Africa, Brazil and Eastern Europe and consistent touring across the country. He studied guitar at Rutgers with Ken Wessel, guitarist with free jazz pioneer Ornette Coleman, and built his main guitar himself. Inspired by the early Motown recordings and the classic 70’s singer/songwriters records, his self-titled 2007 release was recorded live in the studio with minimal overdubs in only three days. The result is “a well-crafted and fairly seamless production, a collection of tunes that consistently makes the most of Brindley’s raspy voice, soulful delivery and impressive guitar work”, says The Washington Post. The Brindley Brothers’ 2004 release on Paste Records, Playing With the Light, was hailed by The Washington Post as “magical…a pop/rock gem…an early contender for one of the best albums of 2004” and was named by Paste Magazine as one of the Top 12 Debut Records of 2004 and their 2006 follow up, Filled With Fire, was called “a sterling example of mature musicianship” by The Washington Post. Luke is currently in the studio recording new material. More information and his music can be found on Luke's websites including www.lukebrindley.com and www.myspace.com/lukebrindley. |
